The holiday season is now in full swing, which has me thinking about lists and gifts. When considering gift ideas for friends and family members or suggestions for yourself, think outside the box--literally.
What do you really want to give? Power tools or tools for building powerful relationships? A smarter phone or a smarter approach to business success?
Those of you who have read my books know that I believe in being clear about what you want to create, so I invite you to consider asking for and giving gifts connected to your best vision for yourself and others.
My holiday wishes are for you to fully envision, find and live your best life. To that end, I offer you some out-of-the-box gift ideas to get you and those you love doing just that.
Mutual Goal Support
Buy an old fashioned moleskin journal and pair it with a copy of Conversations That Get Results and Inspire Collaboration. Bookmark the first chapter "Knowing What You Want to Create." Include a Starbucks gift card and a note suggesting monthly coffee meetings to update on mutual progress in creating the list and acting on it.
Personal Power Tools
Want to give your college graduate a better chance at success? Then forget the latest gadget and instead give a professional assessment that will reveal personal motivators and natural talent. These assessments help someone understand the kind of work they're best suited for and include a debrief with me by phone.
Know a busy commuter who also likes to read? Consider a gift subscription to Audible.com so he or she can make the most of travel time. Some of my favorite downloads include Total Leadership by Stewart Friedman, Start With Why by Simon Sinek, Tell to Win by Peter Guber, or Just Listen by Mark Goulston.
It's what everyone wants, but it doesn't come in a box. It comes from knowing how to identify communication styles and how to speak so people can hear you. The Communications Style assessment will reveal your own preferred communication style and how you can be a more effective communicator and influencer. Give it with a copy of Conversations for Change and a commitment to practice the 12 types of conversations together.
Need to know how you come across to your employees, upper level management, and customers? Hire us to conduct perceptual interviews with the key stakeholders to your success so you can have a clear understanding of how people perceive you. This detailed feedback can be used to showcase your strengths in a job search, to focus your professional development, or to promote business growth. Includes a debrief of the report and clarity about your strengths and areas for development.
Great athletes hire personal trainers or private coaches. Great leaders do the same. Executive coaching sessions are available for 3 months, 6 months or 1 year. If what you really want more than anything else is to be a star performer, develop a high performing team, get to the next level, and grow your own business, ask for the gift that will help you get there.
Happy Thanksgiving and best wishes for a joyous holiday season!
